Starter: Board 2 (Fabric Sampling) review


Lesson Aims: To extend your sampling and research by completing further and more refined samples and observational studies

1. Focus on creating observational studies (drawings, photographs, collage)
2. Use your observational studies to inform more refined samples 
3. Present your observational studies on 'Board 3'

UNIT 4: Week Two



Starter: Mood board review

Lesson Aims: To create a series of fabric samples exploring new techniques in response to your chosen theme/subject matter 

Lesson Objectives (during these lessons you will):
1. Review your mood board 
2. Learn a minimum of 1 new technique 
3. Create 4-5 small samples developing your new technique and combining it with existing techniques

  • Shibori
  • Felting
  • Foiling
  • Relief printing on the heat press
  • Rust Dyeing
  • Batik
  • Fabric Manipulation 
  • Paper Manipulation 
  • Cut work with soldering iron 
  • heat fusing
  • Photo embroidery 
READING WEEK HOMEWORK



(past student examples)

  • Continue to develop your samples so that you have 3-4 strong samples (this may mean re visiting a technique and discarding an initial sample - remember to be selective and present your best work)
  • Present them on BOARD 2 'Fabric Sampling'
  • When presenting your work ensure you include clear visual references in the form of: drawings, photographs, collages 
  • Act upon any suggestions for improvement given for your mood board

DEADLINE: MONDAY 24TH FEBRUARY 

EXTENSION TASK: You may wish to undertake a exhibition, location or gallery visit relevant to your chosen topic. Refer to the powerpoint shown in week one for suggestions of places and details of how to present the visit.

UNIT 4: Week One

Lesson Aims: To have an introduction to Unit 4 and begin to create initial responses to chosen theme

Lesson Objectives (during these lesson you will):
1. Understand the requirements, workload, dates and deadlines for Unit 4
2. Complete a mind map in response to the exam themes
3. Complete initial research into your chosen exam theme
4. Present your research in the form of a mood board

TASKS

Lesson 1
1. Introduction to the exam theme

2. Mind Mapping

Lesson 2 (groups 1 and 2)
Begin presenting mood board in response to chosen theme. You should include a range of images, samples and drawings (see introduction slide show above for examples and tips!) 
In lesson 2 you will work on 4 initial fabric samples which will be included in your mood board

NO ACCESS TO THE TEXTILES ROOM WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY THIS WEEK! YOU WILL WORK INDEPENDENTLY (see below for details!)

Lesson 2 (group 3) - independently
Begin work on mood board this should include researching subject matter for your mood board:

  • Visit the library - photocopy technique instructions and other relevant imagery
  • Use pinterest 
  • Include at least 5 images of 'subject matter' on your mood board
Bring the images/info you find to the lesson on friday to begin presenting your mood board! 


Lesson 3 (groups 1 and 2) - independently 
Continue to work on mood board - this should include researching subject matter for your mood board:

  • Visit the library - photocopy technique instructions and other relevant imagery
  • Use pinterest 
  • Include at least 5 images of 'subject matter' on your mood board
Lesson 3 (group 3)
Creating mood board! You will work on 4 initial fabric samples which will be included in your mood board

2. Complete research and presentation of mood board (it should include a range of fabric samples, drawings, images etc)
