UNIT 4: Week 6-8


Lesson Aims: To finalise your design ideas and fully plan for the creation of your final outcome 

Lesson Objectives (during these lessons you will):
1. Complete 4 refined samples for design board
2. Present Design Board
3. Create a detailed maquette for your final piece
4. Complete 4 more refined samples 
5. Create a large sample to scale for your final piece  

WEEK 6 w/b 17th March
FOCUS: DESIGN BOARD
Finalise your design ideas and present your design board. You should include the following:
  • Photograph of your paper piece
  • Images of inspirational artist/designer/object work
  • Sketches of design ideas
  • 4 refined samples 
  • Colour swatches - really focus on what uou would like to use in the exam (this may mean restricting your colour palette!)
HOMEWORK Complete presentation of design board 
Deadline: first lesson next week 

WEEK 7 w/b 24th March
FOCUS: MAQUETTE
Create a detailed maquette, this is a prototype of your intended final outcome, you should use it to problem solve in advance of the exam! Also During this week I will begin to have a detailed one to ones to discuss areas for improvement.
  • Fashion pathway create your garment to ensure you are clear about the construction of your piece. You can use a cheap fabric to do this e.g. calico/plain cotton 
  • Interior/Art create your object or a template for your object. You can use a cheap fabric to do this e.g. calico/plain cotton 
  • ALL once complete continue sampling or look ahead to next weeks tasks 
HOMEWORK Complete maquette for final piece 
Deadline: first lesson next week 

WEEK 8 w/b 31st March
FOCUS: FINAL SAMPLES
During this week you will have a detailed one to one to discuss areas for improvement. This is the last chance to create samples. 
  • Create 4 more refined samples
  • Look back through your boards to improve them 
HOMEWORK Create a large sample to scale for your final piece and work on areas for improvement 
Deadline: first lesson back after easter

UNIT 4: Week Four and Five

Lesson Aims: To link your practical work to the work of a relevant artist/designer and create a series of samples in response to their work.

Lesson Objectives (during these lessons you will):
1. Create a series of samples in response to your chosen artist/designer 3-4
2. Ensure your samples are responding using techniques used by your chosen artist/designer
3. Research your chosen/artist designer
4. Write up your research (min 300 words) 
5. Present the work on board 3/4 'Artist Research'

TASKS
1st double lesson
1. Select one of the images of your artists work and produce an 'artist copy' sample - recreate the piece of work by your chosen artist/designer in a fabric sample. 
2. If you complete this sample look ahead to homework and/or the 2nd double lesson tasks

HOMEWORK
1. Ensure 'artist copy' sample is complete
2. Select images/observational studies relating to your own theme to work from - photocopy 
3. Complete a second sample working from your own images but using techniques/materials related to your chosen artist/designer 
DEADLINE: for next lesson

2nd double lesson
1. Working from your own images/observational studies create 3 further fabric samples in the style of your artist/designer
2. Ensure you are concentrating on recreating the detail and colour from your observational studies, you may crop into the images or produce a range of repeat patterns. 

HOMEWORK
1. Complete write up of artist research - if you need help refer to this help sheet! 
2. Ensure you have print credit for next lesson - you will be using the photocopier/printer 
DEADLINE: for next lesson

3rd double lesson
1. Discuss and plan your final piece - consider the time restraint - 15 hours and technical ability - this should be your best piece for the A level
2. Create a mind map to show a range of possible ideas - include details of the potentials/limitations of the idea.  Decide on what you would like to make  
3. Create a detailed paper version of your intended outcome 
Fashion: Create a paper garment using photocopies of samples/observational work on the mannequin 
Interiors: Use photocopier, Photoshop or collage to create composition 
4. Ensure you photograph the pieces you have created

HOMEWORK
Create a new set of samples focusing on colour, textures or patterns to use on your final outcome.  Remember not to repeat yourself and to develop imagery and ideas in relation to your final piece idea. You should create 4 samples.
